Week 24 – The end is a new beginning!

end or beginning

So here we are 26 weeks later and it’s been an incredible journey with the MKMMA.  Creating lifetime habits of reading and daily periods of silence and exercise.  Reading, studying, digesting Charles Haanel’s Master Key system.  It’s pretty amazing how something written and published a century ago is as true for today as when it was written.    Reading the scrolls in Og Mandino’s “The Greatest Salesman in the world” 3 times a day for an entire month at a time.  We have 4 more scrolls which means 4 more months which takes us to end of July.

So while the MKS course is ending it’s really the beginning for us as we continue to apply the principles we have learned and practice the good habits we have created and manifest and watch our inner most and burning desires unfold.  We have learned about the power of our thoughts and the importance of focusing on them and not being scattered or distracted from them which is how many of us live our lives in this busy world with distractions like tv, internet, newspapers.  Its a time to give thanks because gratitude is a choice.  We have been writing 3 things each day that we are thankful for.  People who are thankful lead happier lives.  It’s a time to be happy because happiness is a choice no matter the situation, think of the old saying, every cloud has a silver lining.

I’ll leave you with this video and try not to clap along.

Thank you for stopping by and sharing this journey with me.  Remember happiness is a choice, what do you choose?

Week 23 – Greatest love of all

As I wondered what I would write about for Week 23, Whitney Houston’s song “Greatest Love of all” came to mind, so I looked up the lyrics and I found that the chorus (in bold below) reminds me of one of the important lessons in our MKMMA journey “the world within” and it also reminds me of one of the many lessons in of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s essay on Self Reliance which we read last week “think for yourself”.

I did a little research on the origin of the song and this is taken from wikipedia.

The Greatest Love of All” is a song written by Michael Masser and Linda Creed and originally recorded by George Benson for the 1977 Muhammad Ali biopic The Greatest. (A live version by Benson appears on 1978’s Weekend in L.A.)

The song was later popularized by Whitney Houston under the title “Greatest Love of All“. The song was recorded by the American recording artist for her debut album, self-titled Whitney Houston, which was released in February 1985, by Arista Records.

Creed wrote the lyrics in the midst of her struggle with breast cancer. The words describe her feelings about coping with great challenges that one must face in life, being strong during those challenges whether you succeed or fail, and passing that strength on to children to carry with them into their adult lives. Creed eventually succumbed to the disease in April 1986 at the age of 37; at the time her song was an international hit by Houston

“Greatest Love Of All”

I believe the children are our future
Teach them well
And let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty
They possess inside
Give them a sense of pride
To make it easier
Let the children’s laughter
Remind us how we used to be

Everybody’s searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone
Who fulfilled my needs
A lonely place to be
And so I learned to depend on me.

I decided long ago
Never to walk in anyone’s shadow
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I lived as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can’t take away my dignity

Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all

I believe the children are our future
Teach them well
And let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty
They possess inside
Give them a sense of pride
To make it easier
Let the children’s laughter
Remind us how we used to be

I decided long ago
Never to walk in anyone’s shadow
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I lived as I believe.
No matter what they take from me
They can’t take away my dignity

Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all

And If by chance that special place
That you’ve been dreaming of
Leads you to a lonely place
Find your strength in love

and now I know you want to sing it and hear it sung so without further ado here is the late, great, beautiful, Whitney Houston (gone way too soon)

It all leads back to love.  Have love in your heart for all.  Give Love and you get more love.  Love yourself.  Love others.  Remember the line from scroll 2 from Og Mandino’s Greatest salesman in the world  “I will greet this day with love in my heart”

i greet this day with love 2

Have a wonderful week….

Week 22a – Be Still and know that I am God

be still and know

I’ve always loved this from Psalm 46:10 – “Be Still and know that I am God”  It has a lovely sense of calm about it.  We were asked to complete a period of silence, ideally 2 days, however, if that wasn’t possible, go for as long as we could.  I got a window of 7 hours and it just wasn’t long enough.  At some point I plan to carve out at least a full day of silence for myself with only this sentence. Rather than write about the value of periods of stillness and silence in our go go go worlds of chaos, I found this beautiful video clip which I hope you have the time to watch.  It says everything I wanted to say and much more.

I’ll leave you with something to think about (I included in a previous weeks post that is also relevant to this week’s post…..)

listen & silent

Week 22- It’s all about the way we think

As we progress on our journey, the underlying theme is that It’s all about the way we think.  We are reading chapter 22 this week which talks about our health.

Sentence 2: If the state of our health is not all that could be desired, let us examine our method of thinking; let us remember that every thought produces an impression on the mind; every impression is a seed which will sink into the subconscious and form a tendency; the tendency will be to attract other similar thoughts and before we know it we shall have a crop which must be harvested.

He goes on in sentence 3 and 4

3. If these thoughts contain disease germs, the harvest will be sickness, decay,
weakness, and failure; the question is, what are we thinking, what are we creating,
what is the harvest to be?
4. If there is any physical condition which it is necessary to change, the law
governing visualization will be found effective. Make a mental image of physical
perfection, hold it in the mind until it is absorbed by the consciousness. Many have
eliminated chronic ailments in a few weeks by this method, and thousands have
overcome and destroyed all manner of ordinary physical disturbances by this
method in a few days, sometimes in a few minutes.

Pretty amazing when you think about it and here we go again with that word think!

We have moved onto scroll 5 in Og Mandino’s “The Greatest Salesman in the World” and the theme is mastering our emotions and how do we do this?  You got it – it’s all about the way we think.

“Weak is he who permits his thoughts to control his actions; strong is he who forces his actions to control his thoughts”

It is imperative that we maintain a positive mental attitude (PMA) at all times and that my friends is easy when everything is going our way, however, the moment a conflict arises then our PMA is put to the test.  I am so grateful for this MKMMA course which is giving us the tools to overcome all those obstacles that are getting in the way of our manifesting the life we truly desire and deserve and each week we are adding tools to our toolbelt.

The only way to do this is to put them into play in our lives. It’s one thing to read about them, however, you must take action.  As Mark J mentioned in a recent webinar, you have to crack an egg to create the recipe.  Think about it, you can read a recipe for cake over and over, however, the only way to get results is to actually follow the directions in the recipe and voila you get your cake.

cakeWe also need to ensure we follow the recipe as directed e.g. use the correct ingredients and the measurement must be correct e.g. if the recipe calls for sugar then using salt as a substitute because it looks like sugar will not get you the results you are looking for.  If the recipe calls for vegetable oil then using motor oil because it looks like vegetable oil again will not get you the results you are looking for and I can see you cringing at the “thought” of making a cake with salt and motor oil.

We all have the ability, we just have to control our thoughts and I know what you’re thinking, that’s easier said than done.  However, think about it if you cannot control your thoughts then you must realize that you are where you are today as a result of the choices you have made thus far.  When I first heard this I was taken aback as I want so much more for my life and when I sat and thought about it, I realized it is a true statement.  I am where I am due to the choices I’ve made.  Now that I’m aware I’m taking control – how about you?

I’ll leave you with this clip that is certain to warm you heart, see how changing the wording on the blind man’s sign made people think differently….

Week 21 – Think BIG thoughts

Thanks for stopping by, we’re onto Week 21 of our MKS journey and its a biggie

Herewith is this weeks Master Key lesson 21 paragraph 7

This is one of the secrets of success, one of thethink big methods of organizing victory,

one of the accomplishments of the Master-Mind. He thinks big thoughts. The

creative energies of mind find no more difficulty in handling large situations, than

small ones. Mind is just as much present in the Infinitely large as in the Infinitely

How big can you dream?

walking on the moon

Have you ever dreamed of going on a tour to the moon.

Seems like a far fetched idea yet it is just as possible to dream about taking a trip to the moon as it is taking a trip to Disneyworld.

Not that I really want to take a trip to the moon but it’s nice to know I am free to have that dream should I choose to.

All this talk about manifesting our thoughts can seem a bit out there to a lot of people, however, when you think about it and I mean really think about it there are examples going on all around us of dreams being manifested.  Take the show American Idol, that started as a thought to audition ordinary folks with extraordinary voices and make them a star.  Look at all the lives that were changed by that one idea for a TV show.kelly_clarkson_wins_american_idol

Kelly Clarkson winner of the first season of American Idol 2002

Take the internet, another thought that has manifested into something that is beyond explanation except that it works and has made this world a much smaller place by virtue of the ability for someone in Australia is able to connect with someone in New York instantly, that we can get instant answers to any question we may have (though might be a good idea to check the source lol)

What’s amazing to me is that Charles Haanel wrote the Master Key system in the early 1900’s, yet it is as relevant today as it was back then, were Haanel alive today I wonder what he’d think?

So Think Big Dreams…. they truly are possible.  Watch this video of Kelly Clarkson and put yourself in her shoes… imagine her feelings, her emotions, borrow them and bottle them up if you need to so you can think BIG!!  Let’s not be the ones that wait a lifetime for a moment like this!!

Week 20 – How are you filling your jar of life?

I was reminded of the following story this week (which has been circulating for awhile) in Mark J’s video where he demonstrated filling a container with similar items.  The story goes as follows:

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and fills it with golf balls.

jar of lifeHe then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured it into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous “YES”.

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

“Now,” said the professor, as the laughter subsided, “I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things – God, family, children, health, friends, and favorite passions. Things, that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the things that matter like your job, house, and car. The sand is everything else — the small stuff.” he said.

“If you put the sand into the jar first,” he continued, “There is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you…” he told them.

“So… pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Worship with your family. Play with your children. Take your partner out to dinner. Spend time with good friends. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the dripping tap. Take care of the golf balls first — the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.”

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled and said, “I’m glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.”

Sure puts life in prospective doesn’t it.  In the theme of this thought provoking story, I also found this video clip of life quotes….

Thanks for stopping by, be sure to leave a comment, maybe YOUR favorite quote and make it a great week

Week 19 – I Am

It’s movie time.  This week I watched “I am” a movie by Tom Shadyac whose name didn’t mean anything to me until I saw that he was the creator of these blockbuster comedies “Ace Ventura,” “Liar Liar,” “The Nutty Professor,” and “Bruce Almighty”  all of which I have seen and enjoyed a good laugh.

He made the movie “I am” after a harrowing experience which completely changed his life.  He started the movie with 2 questions what’s wrong with our world, and what can we do to make it better?  There are numerous great nuggets in this movie and I recommend you put it on your “must watch” list.  You can view it here for free I am (thanks to my colleague Heather Plude for providing link – you can check out Heather’s blog here.

One of the comments that struck a chord with me was that the basis of nature is cooperation and democracy, it’s in our DNA.   We are literally designed to operate from positive emotions – surprise surprise.  We function better in a state of compassion, empathy and love than in a state of separation.  Have you ever wondered when you get worked up or angry you find it hard to think of the right words or anything to say for that matter – well the reason is anger inhibits our thought.

One of the participators in the movie also talks about there being one fundamental law that all of nature obeys everyday and that man breaks and it’s that nothing in nature takes more than it needs, e.g. the Redwood tree only takes from the soil what it needs and we have a term for something that takes more than it needs in the body and its called cancer.  Tom realized by living the life of the rich and famous ie. buying million dollar mansions and travelling via private jets etc, he was adding to that cancer.  He also mentioned that one day while standing in one of his mansions which symbolized his success he realized it didn’t make him happy – surprise surprise there too.  We have been learning through out our journey reading the Master Keys that our happiness comes from the world within.   So he now lives in a modest home, cycles, teaches in a local university and is much happier.  I wonder if that accident hadn’t happened where would he be or was it his destiny?

He ended the movie with a question that he hopes we can all answer the same “what’s right with the world?”  and in the final comments a gentleman said “John Lennon had it right -” Love is all you need,  Yes, Love is all you need to start, so lets start” and what better day to start than Valentines day.

I’ll leave you with a song featured in the movie from Black Eyed Peas – where is the love?  Have a great week and don’t forget we as humans function better from a state of compassion, empathy and love so try doing things from these emotions this week and see what happens.  Thanks for stopping by.

Week Eighteen – Live in the moment

We have moved onto the scroll marked number 5 in Og Mandino’s The Greatest Salesman in the world and Oh boy is it a thought provoker.  “I will live each day as if it’s my Last” is the theme.  Have you ever thought about what you would do if it was your last day on this earth? If money were no object and you were in good health.

Hugfest Buttons

I would want to be with all my family and friends.  I would charter a plane and have everyone gather in a sunshine resort where everyone could have fun and relax and enjoy each others company.  There would be things for the kids to do in case they get ‘bored’ with my love as I’d want to hug them often.  Actually I’d want to hug everyone many times.  It would be a hug fest.

In the scroll we read about forgetting the yesterdays as they’re gone and cannot be retaken and the tomorrows aren’t here yet.  Focus on TODAY!  Be in the moment.  Give love to your loved ones, be kind to all and grateful for everything.

“What day is it?”
It’s today,” squeaked Piglet.
My favorite day,” said Pooh.”
― A.A. Milne

As part of the course, we also get to read an obituary from a physical newspaper and think about what we think the person would give to have another chance at life on earth – how would they spend it?  We also were given a sentence to ponder on “what would the person I intend to become do next”?  WOW.  So if you think about it and I mean really think about it – all these items are telling us to do is live in the moment.  Be present in all that you do i.e don’t be on the phone and reading an email on your computer.  If you have children, don’t be in the park with them and looking at your phone every second.  Be on the phone and be present in that conversation.  Be in the park and pay attention to your children.   Live in the moment.

I’ll leave you with this cute video I found this on youtube

Week Seventeen J – Manifesting Success

I am excited this week.  I have a great story about manifesting success.

I have a friend whose 17 yr niece in Ireland was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer a year ago this month (Jan 2013). She had 3 surgeries in 2013 and numerous scans both in Dublin and here in New York.  I bumped into my friend sometime in early October and she mentioned she’d really like to do something to raise funds for her niece and her family as the travel to New York and scans were not covered by her insurance and wondered how she would go about it.  Long story short phone calls were made, a committee of people was formed, a date was picked for the fundraiser, a venue was agreed upon, tickets were printed, our committee met weekly, we had many, many prizes donated and I am so happy to say our fundraiser was held a week ago and it was a resounding success between ticket sales prior to the event and all the people who came to support the event on the day.   I am blown away by the generosity and kindness of people.  We had raffles with terrific prizes for everyone, a DJ provided entertainment with some musicians stopping by through out the day, a magician and face painting for the kids and lots more.   The event was a lot of fun for all the family and it was wonderful to see everyone volunteer their time to ensure everything ran great on the day.

When I look back I see the progression from my friends thought to help her niece truly which became a reality by her having a burning desire and forming a mastermind of like minded people.  The day I met her she had no idea about the how, but she had the why and the goal in mind. My friend had never done anything like this, however, by forming the committee we found folks with experience in organizing such events and is a testament that you cannot do everything yourself. The mastermind aka committee met weekly, took the necessary action, publicized the event by putting up posters everywhere, articles written in local newspapers, set up a facebook page to keep folks updated, selling tickets, and voila our event manifested.  This is Emma, she comes to New York this week for a scan, please keep her in your prayers that she gets good news.

So there you have it, we have the power within us, we not only have to want it but we have to know what we want with every breath of our body (as Kevin Spacey so brilliantly answered a question from the audience about being successful), back it with a burning desire, speak it to the universe and let the magic happen.

Thanks for stopping by…

Week Seventeen – Nature’s greatest miracle

We are currently reading scroll 4 in the Og Mandino’s Greatest Salesman.  For those of you following along we read the scroll times a day for 30 days.  Each scroll has an underlying theme and in scroll 4 we read “I am nature’s greatest Miracle” several times.  Profound words to say the least.  Keep telling yourself that because you are.  Each and every one of us are.  I feel so sad for the folks in this world who don’t feel life is worth living.  If only they knew they are natures greatest miracle.  There is no dress rehearsal in life.  Live every moment to the fullest.

This week I heard about several sad stories of folks who lost their battles with that awful disease cancer.  One in particular was a young woman, as beautiful a person inside as her outward beauty as told by those who knew her at the wake.  I didn’t have the privilege of meeting her, I know her husband from school days and he too can be described the same way so they were well matched.  They have a beautiful son who sadly doesn’t get to know his mother, I’m sure his dad will tell him lots of stories to keep her memory alive.  I couldn’t help but feel sad as I looked at the little boy with his dad as they stood by the casket.  I’m sure you can relate to the sadness I’m feeling for the loss even though you don’t know the folks involved.  This reminds me that we can attach any feeling to a thought we want.  I can feel happy that the young woman is at peace and is no longer suffering, however, there is still a sadness for the dad and his son who have to continue this part of the journey without her.  I guess the important thing is that they chose to LIVE their lives and be happy to have known her even if it were a short time. As the old saying goes it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

We must remember “we are nature’s greatest miracle” and be thankful for all the we have, after all we awoke this morning and could say” Horray, I’m alive, I’m Healthy, I’m loved, let’s see that this day brings.”
